Update March 02, 2017: The aforementioned patch in Overwatch is now available on the PTR, with it reducing the damage reduction of Bastion’s Ironclad passive.
Blizzard introduced some major Bastion buffs earlier this week, and the community went in a bit of a rage in response, the feedback has quite forthcoming from the Overwatch community about Bastion’s current power level.
Now, game director Jeff Kaplan has admitted that the Overwatch team may have made the buffs a little too strong, openly admitting that bastion dominating the current meta right now.
“Over the past few nights I’ve played with, as and against Bastion,” Kaplan wrote on the game’s forums. “My perception is that he is a little too powerful right now.”
The new changes allowed Bastion to heal on the go in recon mode, while also boosting his defense sentry mode and giving him larger magazine sizes, as the balance team try to find a new niche in the current meta. “Complaints and praise of Bastion are both valid” at this time Kaplan says.
“The perception of what the meta is does not match what the actual meta is” says Kaplan, fans should just hold their hourses on jumping on balance changes that don’t exactly fix the problem thrown up by pro play.
Kaplan said. “I don’t think he’s perfect yet. But I do think there is a high amount of hyperbole around this particular situation.”
The PTR change is available right now so jump into the test environment to take the changes for a spin.
